The Cyber Bobby Scheme is a free service for the elderly and disabled within Hampshire. The aim of the service is to raise awareness about basic IT security. A trained volunteer will visit you in your own home and will give you advice and guidance on basic IT security and how to avoid being affected by a cyber crime or a cyber enabled crime. What is the Cyber Bobby Scheme?

The Cyber Bobby Scheme is a free service for the elderly and disabled within Hampshire. The aim of the service is to raise awareness about basic IT security. A trained volunteer will visit you in your own home and will give you advice and guidance on basic IT security and how to avoid being affected by a cyber crime or a cyber enabled crime.

Who is eligible?

The service is free for residents of Hampshire (exc. IoW) who are:

  • 60 and over
  • Disabled (over 18)
  • Previous Victim of Cyber Crime (over 18)
Can I refer someone from outside Hampshire?

The Cyber Bobby scheme does not operate outside Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight.

What does it cost?

The service is free to those who qualify.

How can I book a visit?

Can I refer someone I know?

Yes, anyone can make a referral, as long as the person you’re referring meets our criteria (see above). Please ensure the person you are referring is happy for a referral to be made on their behalf. Click here to access our online referral form.

Who are the volunteers?

Our volunteers are trained, uniformed, police vetted and carry IDs. We will advise the client of the name of the volunteer who will be attending before they arrive.

How does it work?

Once we have received a referral, a member of the team will contact the client or their representative to arrange a time and date for the appointment. The volunteer will call to confirm when they are on their way. When they arrive they will be wearing their Cyber Bobby Scheme uniform and have a Blue Lamp Trust ID badge.

Could you come and talk to my community group about the Cyber Bobby Scheme?

Yes, our volunteers can attend local community groups within Hampshire, where attendees would meet our referral criteria, to give talks about basic IT security and give further information about the Cyber Bobby Scheme.

How long does an appointment take?

Visits will vary in length depending on the situation and the clients’ needs. We recommend you allow at least an hour.

Can you fix my broken computer while you’re here??

No, the Cyber Bobby Scheme only deals with advice and guidance on basic IT security. If you need help with other programmes then you will need to contact an IT trainer.

Can you teach me how to use programmes on my computer such as Word or Excel?
