The Blue Lamp Trust has been a leading provider of assessments for Taxi licence applicants and existing Taxi drivers since 2011. As a not-for-profit organisation, all our proceeds go towards our Bobby Scheme which provides free home safety and security to elderly and vulnerable people to restore peace of mind.

Taxi Assessment Structure

The assessment lasts 1 hour consisting of a driving licence and eyesight check, a 45 minute driving assessment across a variety of road types and a debrief. Each candidate will be asked 2 ‘show me / tell me’ questions.  During the assessment drive they will be asked to perform 2 reversing manoeuvres, possibly an emergency stop and to drive independently of direction for a 10 minute period following road signs and directions to a particular destination.

A high level of driving competence is required.  To pass you must have no serious or dangerous driving faults and no more than 9 driving faults.

Successful candidates will be issued with a copy of their marking sheet and certificate.

Changes made within 5 clear working days will not qualify for a refund and re-booking will attract the full fee.

Short Notice Booking – If you agree an assessment date with the assessor that is within 5 clear working days or less changes cannot be made to the booking and refunds will not be given.

Preparing for your Assessment

You may have several years of driving experience however we all pick up bad habits over time.  Therefore we strongly recommend that you take a driving lesson with an approved driving instructor (ADI) before taking your assessment.

The Blue Lamp Trust does not offer on road training in preparation for your assessment as this would be conflict of interest.

Our quick eLearning modules may be a useful way of refreshing your knowledge.
