Our Story

From a single van to a county-wide charity protecting thousands across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Our Journey

The Blue Lamp Trust began life in 1998 as The Bobby Scheme, a community initiative to help victims of burglary feel safe again. Volunteers visited homes, fitted door and window locks, and offered reassurance.

When funding for the original scheme ended in 2010, founder Lindsay Fox MBE DL and Alan Lovell, then the High Sheriff of Hampshire, led the effort to keep this essential service alive. Together they founded the Blue Lamp Trust — a registered charity named after the iconic blue light of the emergency services.
Our Growth

The charity quickly became a powerful partnership between Hampshire Constabulary, and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, local councils and community groups.

Through continued public support and innovative funding, the Trust expanded to include The Cyber Bobby Scheme, offering online safety advice to protect older and vulnerable people from digital scams and fraud.

In 2025, the charity proudly evolved once more. The Bobby Scheme became Safe Home, and Cyber Bobby became Safe Online, reflecting our wider mission of helping people feel safe and secure both at home and online.

We visit approximately 3000 clients at home each year across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Support Our Work

As a charity, the Blue Lamp Trust relies on donations and sponsorships to keep Safe Home free for those who need it most.
