Summer often means holidays, family visits, days out and more time spent away from home, making it a good time to review your home security. Our free Safe Home visits help older and vulnerable residents across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight take simple steps to feel safer and more confident at home.

From checking doors, windows and outdoor buildings to keeping keys and valuables secure, our trained, police-vetted Safety Technicians provide practical advice tailored to each property and can install appropriate safety equipment where needed.

Whether you are travelling abroad, visiting family or simply spending more time away from home, a Safe Home visit can help provide greater peace of mind this summer. Read our latest blog for simple tips to help keep your home safe while you are away.

Safe Home offers free home safety visits for older people and vulnerable residents throughout Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Our trained, police-vetted Safety Technicians carry out a full home security and fire safety assessment. They provide personalised advice and, where needed, install items such as:
 
  • Door and window locks
  • Spyholes and door chains
  • Long-life smoke alarms
  • Carbon monoxide detectors
  • Other approved safety equipment
Who It's For

This service is free for those who qualify.

Safe Home is available to residents who are:

Vulnerable Adults:

  • Over 65’s
  • With learning disabilities
  • Suffering from addiction
  • With long-term illnesses
  • With mental health difficulties such as dementia, bipolar disorder, etc.
  • Living in hazardous or unsafe living conditions
  • Who are self-neglecting
  • Who are financially disadvantaged (Self-referral not accepted – referral must come from a support service provider or food bank)

Make a Referral

Referrals can be made by individuals, family members, friends, carers, housing officers, medical professionals, support workers or community organisations.

Professionally trained, including fire safety advice by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, and willing to share their expertise to improve people’s home safety and security.

In addition to one-to-one home visits, our safety technicians regularly deliver talks to local groups.

These sessions cover topics such as:

  • Practical advice regarding home security and safety
  • Home fire safety advice
  • Demonstrating practical equipment
