Safe Online is our free home-visit service offering basic online safety advice to older and vulnerable residents across Hampshire. A police trained adviser visits your home (or supports remotely) to help with things like online safety awareness, scam prevention, privacy settings, and reporting fraud.
Q: Who is eligible for Safe Online?

No, Safe Online operates only in Hampshire.
Q: Can someone else refer on my behalf?
Yes — a friend, family member, carer, support worker, charity or other third party can make a referral, provided the person needing help consents.

No, Safe Online is free for those who qualify.
Q: How long does a visit last?
Visits vary depending on the person’s situation, but you should allow at least one hour.
Q: How can I book a Safe Online visit?
You can make a referral via our online referral form, and a member of staff will then contact the client to arrange a visit. If you cannot make a referral online please call 0300 777 0157 and speak to a member of the team
Q: What if I need help remotely (not in person)?
Q: Can the adviser fix my computer or software problems?
No. Safe Online provides advice and guidance only on basic online safety. We do not provide hardware repairs, software training, or advanced IT support.
Q: Can you teach me how to use software like Word or Excel?
No, the service is limited to online safety and security guidance. For software training, you’ll need a specialist IT training provider.
Q: Who carries out the visits?
Volunteers advisers are trained, uniformed, and police-vetted. They will carry Blue Lamp Trust ID and call when they are on the way to the property.
Q: How is my data handled?
All personal data is handled in line with data protection laws and our privacy policy.
Q: What should I do if I have a complaint?
Submit your complaint in writing to safeonline@bluelamptrust.org.uk or by post to Blue Lamp Trust, c/o Police & Fire HQ, Leigh Road, Eastleigh, SO50 9SJ
Complaints received after this time may not be considered. We aim to acknowledge receipt within 2 working days.
Complaints regarding fundraising practice should be made in writing to the above address. Concerns about the Trust’s handling of fundraising practice complaints can be made to the Fundraising Regulator.
