Hampshire Bobby Scheme
About the Bobby Scheme
The Bobby Scheme is a practical service providing FREE home security, long-life smoke alarms and peace of mind for the vulnerable and elderly within Hampshire.
Over the last 12 months, our trained fitters have helped to improve safety at over 2290 homes.
How the Scheme Works
The Bobby Scheme operates throughout Hampshire (including Southampton and Portsmouth) and takes client referrals from a wide range of agencies and members of the public.
At the earliest opportunity, a visit from one of our trained fitters is arranged. They carry out a full crime-prevention survey, fitting as appropriate:
- Door Chains
- Smoke Alarms
The Bobby Fitters are uniformed, police vetted and carry ID cards to reassure our clients.
Key Safes can also be fitted for a donation to the charity of £40.00.
The Fitter spends time with each client, giving both general reassurance and specific crime-prevention advice to improve the safety of their homes.
Please note that we do not carry out electrical work, installation of CCTV, glazing, or other repairs.
Referrals can be made on behalf of anyone who meets our criteria, including people who are:
- Vulnerable due to age (over 60)
- Vulnerable due to circumstance
- Victim of burglary
- Repeat victim of crime
- Victim of domestic abuse
If you are a general member of the public and unsure if somebody meets our referral criteria, please contact our team by writing to firstname.lastname@example.org or phoning 0300 777 0157.
Alternately, if you work for an organisation using Criminal Justice Secure Mail (CJSM), you should instead write to email@example.com.
Our fitters are happy to attend social group meetings to give talks to people who may benefit from our services. They will give advice regarding home security and safety and give an overview of our services and show examples of the fittings that can be installed to help make a home more safe and secure.
To arrange a fitter to attend your group meeting, please contact the team by writing to firstname.lastname@example.org or by phoning 0300 777 0157.
Benefits of the Bobby Scheme
Burglary and domestic abuse can be a devastating experience, causing turmoil, depression and sometimes resulting in stress related illness.
For those living alone, burglary may undermine their confidence to continue living independently.
Not only does the Bobby Scheme bring peace of mind and help reduce the fear of crime, but it also has a substantial effect in reducing repeat victimisation.
Our aim is to restore victims' confidence and enable them to carry on living independently and to restore a sense of security withing their own home.
Mrs P Liphook
My daughter and I are very grateful for the practical advice, hands on help and giving me renewed confidence in living alone.
Donate to the Bobby Scheme
Did you know that in 2014, the Bobby Scheme helped to improve the safety of over 2290 homes across Hampshire, all absolutely free of charge?
To help us continue to offer this service, we would be grateful if you would consider making a donation to the Bobby Scheme.
Your money will help the Bobby Scheme to remain free-to-use, as well as allowing us to continue providing reassurance and peace of mind to other elderly and vulnerable people across Hampshire, many of whom have been the victims of crime or domestic abuse.

Graeme Hobbs Chairman, Motorola Solutions UK Ltd.
"The Blue Lamp Trust Bobby Scheme helps to ensure that those living alone can continue to live in a safe environment following a burglary. Motorola Solutions is delighted to be supporting this scheme which enables many people to live independently and recover quickly from the knock-on effects of crime. The Bobby Scheme's trained fitters do much more than fit new locks and fit or check smoke alarm; they also offer guidance and reassurance helping vulnerable people to stay safe and feel safe in their own homes."
We help firefighters see around buildings and police officers see around street corners. We make supply chains visible to retailers and entire power grids visible to utility workers. We provide the situational awareness first responders need when a moment brings catastrophe. And we help companies deliver shipments at the moment they're promised.
We do this by connecting them to seamless communication networks, applications and services, by providing them with real-time information, and by arming them with intuitive, nearly indestructible handheld devices.
